So, we've passed the halfway point of the pregnancy and are trying to prepare for the arrival of a new baby in October. All the books say you should not procrastinate and get things at the last moment. So, as I look around at all the items out there I am curious to find out what other mothers/parents have found to be essential to the first few months of the baby's life.
We have a crib. Check. We have some friends who are going to let us borrow their co-sleeper. Check. What other items will we need? We have a small house and we don't want to overload it with unnecessary items.
Any of you absolutely LOVE your stroller? Car seat? Is there somewhere that I can go to find out about safe strollers and car seats? Like a consumer guide report? Actually, that is probably where I need to go. If they talk about vacuums, they must talk about strollers and car seats.
Anyone use cloth diapers? If so, what brand did you like?
That's all I can think of at the moment. Any other advice/suggestions for us?
Top 3 things
ReplyDelete1. cradle swing
2. boppy for nursing
3. Moses basket - could put him in it (awake or asleep) and take it around the house (like to shower etc). great for 1st month
4. (bonus just for mom) nipple shields
I didn't know you were pregnant--Congratulations! Do you know if it's a boy or girl yet? It's amazing--Tyler is almost 1, and I can't believe how the time flies! One of the best things recommended to me was a video monitor--it's invaluable with all the noises babies make. I'll add your blog as a favorite and keep track of your new family! S
ReplyDeleteOk--I am all caught up now on your blog. I am so excited for you guys! Another thing I wanted to suggest when you go do your baby registry is to bring a friend who's had a baby recently. You won't end up needing or liking everything they do, but it's somewhere to start. And thank goodness for returns! Good luck...it's a fabulous ride! S
ReplyDelete1. Boppy
ReplyDelete2. Lots of swaddling blankets - babies pooh & pee through everything so you need spares.
3. Don't bother with a high chair just use the kids chair that hooks onto your kitchen chair.
My top three would be...
ReplyDelete1. A light weight nursing shawl (if you're nursing of course). I had one with elastic and velcro so it stayed put. Made nursing anywhere, anytime, oh so much easier and comfortable!
2. A fold up booster seat. We did this instead of those big, awkward high chairs for so many reasons. They take up way less space (you just strap it to one of your dining chairs). The one we had had an adjustable seat so you could raise and lower the seat as they grow. They are portable, so easy to take anywhere. I loved this cuz it guaranteed my baby a seat at grandma's when her high chair was being used by another baby. When it's dirty, you just take it apart and put the whole thing in the dishwasher. So much easier to clean than a high chair!!
3. Baby monitor or video monitor. Gives you more freedom and less worry, for sure.
Good questions to ask!
Amie,
ReplyDeleteThe three things that I would say if you can't live without are:
1) monitor - nothing fancy. Just so you can go outside and work can still hear the baby.
2) blankets so you can snuggle them up like a little burrito. I've found they sleep best in nice wrapped blankie.
3) baby bjorn so you can keep them close as they are little and carry them around or go in hikes. It's nice. They like to sleep alot when they are little.
Marlene probably has other ideas.
On another note - congrats to the Utes going to the PAC 10. BYU had work to do to make it to the big time.
